DW2000 - Voidwatch 2003

Series Two of Voidwatch was mainly a continuation of the last season, nothing particularly changed. However, this season would see Vince and Andy get together and had a will they or won’t they sub plot with Peter and Donna.

This story would be the same as the Torchwood story “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” except all the stuff with Gray is removed.

Ghost Town

By Rupert Laight

The team travel to Romania after being invited by one of Vince’s old friends named Yolande to stay for a week, during the opening we learn that a peace conference is being held in Romania, at first everything appears to be a simple holiday the team, however during the night Louise is attacked by what she believes to be spirits. The next day we see the team explore the area, Vince and Louise return back to the house while Andy, Peter and Donna meet a man named Christian Abbotly, they return to the house where they meet an American peace envoy for the  conference along with his wife Candice.

At the end of the day everyone heads off for the night, Vince goes to his room where he feels as though something is haunting the house, he goes downstairs and finds Candice dead with her eyes wide open and her hair turned white.

The team set up some monitoring equipment in her room to track the spirits or whatever is causing the phenomena, Vince is then attacked during the night but is rescued by Andy and Yolande and after the footage is looked at they find nothing, eventually Vince discovers that the person behind these attacks is Christian.

We find that Christian was planning to use these powers to create the right conditions to frighten someone to death and kill people in the peace conference, in the end Christian is shot dead by Louise during a struggle between Christian and Vince.

Devotion

By Chris Chibnall

The story sees Voidwatch investigating a cult named ‘The Doomsday Devoters’ who recruit people into joining their cult, they believe if they kill themselves they will be allowed in the afterlife before the apocalypse will happen.

The story would focus on the team trying to stop the crew and their followers from jumping off the roof of a building but it’s no good as they all jump on the hour and plummet to their deaths. A subplot sees Dave find out about Louise’s job.

Night Dreams

By Nicholas Briggs

Louise is troubled by nightmares she has every night about people on the streets being killed and when she wakes up they actually happen, the story would see the team try and help Louise and at the end of the story it is revealed she was bit by an alien bug which can make you nightmares invade your head when awake, so none of the events happened and it was all in Louise’s mind.

The finale sees Vince, Louise, Andy, Peter and Donna trying to escape and we see it’s a sort of escape room thing going with all of them. They eventually get out and split up to find each other, however Peter and Donna end up being trapped in a room filling up with poisonous gas. Before they die, they confess their love and kiss before they die. In the end, Vince, Andy and Louise find Hart and Vince shoots him through the head and attend the funerals of Peter and Donna. The end of the episode sees Vince and Andy kiss and Dave proposes to Louise.

Series Two of Voidwatch received positive reviews, however it was seen that were certain problems with this series - though the character arcs this season were praised.
